From 11 to 13 May last week, an annual stalwart on the financial services industry’s calendar took place: the annual PSG Conference at Sun City. See photo’s from the event here.
This, the 18th annual conference, saw a theme in line with PSG’s latest TV adverts and general marketing campaign strategy: that of the power of being ‘bigger picture thinkers’.
PSG’s recently launched television advert tells the story of the 1955 Mille Miglia motor race and the record win by Sir Stirling Moss and his navigator, Denis Jenkinson. Moss and Jenkinson secured their win by taking a broader view: they realised the importance of the driver/navigator partnership, used an innovative new navigational technique and spent hours mapping their route ahead of the race. In doing so, they set a record time that remains unbeaten. Similarly, as bigger picture thinkers, PSG considers every detail to ensure the best possible results for our clients, according to Tracy Hirst, PSG’s Head of Group Marketing.
With numbers up from last year, the conference brought in a grand total of 711 attendees, the majority of these being advisers (from both PSG Wealth and PSG Insure). Other attendees consisted of PSG staff from various support divisions; representatives from the PSG Wealth, PSG Asset Management and PSG Insure businesses; product providers accredited by PSG and supporting professional firms.
Apart from the ubiquitous round of golf, glittering gala evening function and the first night festivities, attendees were stimulated by numerous talks on bigger picture thinking. On day one, things escalated quickly with a first address by PSG Konsult CEO Francois Gouws. Thereafter, other speakers were economist-cum-optimist Roelof Botha and PSG Distribution CEO and conference host Dan Hugo.
Day two was headed up by PSG Konsult chairman Willem Theron and non-executive PSG chairman and former director Jannie Mouton. Highlights from the day included a word on industry trends by Sanlam CEO Ian Kirk and two star-studded panels on cybercrime and practical financial planning tips on practices. The panels included illustrious names such as the Head of UK Intermediary at Schroders Robin Stoakley, Bruce Whitfield, SHA’s Simon Colman, social media law expert Emma Sadlier and Investec’s Clyde Rossouw.
